Samuel Clearwater, A.K.A Preppy, likes bowties, pancakes, suspenders, good friends, good times, good drugs, and a good f*ck.

He’s worked his way out from beneath a hellish childhood and is living the life he’s always imagined for himself. When he meets a girl, a junkie on the verge of ending it all, he’s torn between his feelings for her and the crippling fear that she could be the one to end the life he loves.

Andrea ‘Dre’ Capulet is strung out and tired.

Tired of living for her next fix. Tired of doing things that make her stomach turn. Tired of looking in the mirror at the reflection of the person she’s become. Just when she decides to end it all, she meets a man who will change the course of both their lives forever.

And their deaths.

For most people, death is the end of their story.

For Preppy and Dre, death was only the beginning.

This is the fifth book in the King Series and it's meant to be read after Soulless.

5  dark and twisted Stars!!

I was so excited for the chance to review this book.  See I was a T.M. virgin.  I had a trip planned to Nashville and she was going to be there, so I had to read one of her books before I met her.  Well, then a hurricane happened and I was preparing for my trip and I ran out of time…..but I digress.

I had no idea this was book 5 in a series and there was no time to play catch up.   So I jumped in.  Holy all things dark and twisted!!  It took a minute to get past references to the unknown, but I couldn’t stop reading, everything started falling into place.  Would it have been helpful to have read the other four, sure, but with the first few sentences I was sucked in and couldn’t stop.

Oh this dark Preppy, scary and hot all at the same time.  There was something that made him this crazy character and I had to know what.  Then there was Dre.  Poor Dre.  Most cringe at the thought of the life she was leading and how was this dark character going to change things for her?

You will feel the feels, maybe not warm and fuzzy, but definitely the feels.  Whether you have read the entire series or are jumping in here, fasten your seat belt cause you are in for one hell of a ride!!

Excerpt

“No! I hate you,” she spat, as I continued to tug her beside me.

“Good, you can hate me while I fuck you,” I said. “But first things first. My lesson obviously didn’t take in that brain of yours. You want what you want and I can’t stop you,” I said, as we approached the train tracks which were elevated on a mound of gravel several feet off the ground. The warning lights flashed orange, the neon reflective barriers dropped down to cover the service road, while the bells indicating an approaching train clanged away. “And since I can’t stop you, I’m going to help you out. Bullet in the head was so three hours ago. I’ve got something even better in mind now.”

“Wait. What?” she asked, her teeth chattering. “You…you wouldn’t.”

“Wouldn’t what?” I said, turning around to face her, almost losing my footing when I noticed the trail of dried tears on her cheeks. I looked away for a fraction of a second to regain my composure. “You think I wouldn’t kill someone?” I cocked an eyebrow. “You already know that I’ve been there, done that, bought the motherfucking t-shirt, doll.” Her eyes went wide and she made a move to step back. “Oh no, Doc, I read your letter and I saw what you wanted. And remember, I’m nothing if not accommodating.”

When I pulled her to climb the gravel mound her knees locked up so I bent over and picked her up by the waist, tossing her over my shoulder, carrying her onto the tracks while she beat on my back with her closed fists. When I got to the top I set her down roughly and she fell backwards onto her ass, bracing herself with her hands against the large pieces of gravel under the tracks.

The whistle of the train blew in the distance. It wouldn’t be long now. Dre made a move to stand up, but that wasn’t what I had in mind. I bent down and pushed on her chest, spreading her tiny frame across the tracks. I crawled on top of her, pinning her down with my thighs. I leaned over her, my chest to hers as we both breathed rapidly. She struggled underneath me to get up, pushing at my chest, but I wouldn’t budge. “Why the struggle, Doc? This is what you wanted, isn’t it?”

She glanced up at me as the train whistled again. Her gaze flipped to her right, where the single yellow light from the train emerged from around the corner, shining brighter and brighter as it chugged closer and closer. For a moment she stopped struggling, looking back and forth from the train to me.

“So what, you’re gonna die too?” she asked, hoping to appeal to my sense of self preservation.

I shrugged. “I get bored easily, maybe the devil will make me his errand boy or something.”

“Preppy, this isn’t funny. Get up and get off the fucking tracks,” she said, her concern shifting from herself to me.

I shook my head and yawned. She wiggled underneath me, and although there was a train barreling toward us my cock once again stirred to life. Maybe I should just rip down her panties and push inside of her. Train or no train, it would be one fuck of a way to go out.

“You have to choose, Doc,” I said, making my voice as serious as I was capable. “Life?” I asked, screaming over the sound of the train screeching against the track. I pushed my hard cock against her core and she gasped. Her trembling turned into a shiver, her mouth fell open. I glanced to the side at the blinding light of the approaching train as it bathed us both in a tunnel of light. I leaned down, so close that my lips were a whisper above hers, as I shouted, “Life? Or death? What’s it gonna be, Doc?” My hair blew around my face as the light grew brighter and brighter. “Answer the fucking question!” I demanded, my hands squeezing her shoulders, my fingers digging roughly into her skin. “DO YOU WANT TO FUCKING DIE?”

With only seconds left until we became shredded under the train, Dre closed her eyes and sighed. When she opened them again they were glistening, fresh tears spilling from the edges.

She started to speak, her lips forming the beginning of the word, but before it could fully leave her lips I stood, pulling her up with me. I lifted Dre into my arms and took a running leap off the tracks, my legs flailing in the air as we fell the seven or so feet. Dre’s decision still on her lips, her scream surrounding the air around us as we crashed down into the field.

“I wanna liiiiiiiiiiiivvvvvveeeeee.”

4 stars

I was able to read this book today while on a rather long road trip.  It was a quick easy read for me.  Katie is so young and ready to start her life.  She is spunky and fun from the get go.  Katie is forced to make any decisions that are not easy.  She becomes a strong character as she grows into herself.  Fun sexy read.  I look forward to more resort reads.

Carmen chuckled and then signaled for the server. “Listen, Katie, the night is still young.” She tilted her head toward the bar where Keebler Boy and Crabby Sandy stood side by side. “What about Chris?”

“The Keebler Elf? There’s not enough beer or bourbon to ever make that right.”

Carmen slapped the table with her hand. The echo caught their attention. Chris and Sandy turned toward us, but so did another Huntington Hopeful, Bogart. I hadn’t even noticed he’d left our table.

“Oh, Katie, you’re hilarious.”

“I’m glad the truth is so amusing because that little man up there….” I shuddered. “No thank you.”

“I concur.” Carmen’s accent was thick with certain words. “But I wasn’t talking about that Chris.”

“Oh, Bogart?” I shrugged. “He’s… I….”

A blonde with razor-cut hair and a tan that she wore as well as her faded 501s, black tank, and Converse set a fresh IPA in front of each of us. “This is from the gentleman at the bar.”

She didn’t turn, but I knew it had to be Bogart.

Carmen put two fingers in her mouth and gave a sharp whistle. It felt like the entire bar looked over at us. “Gracias!” She raised her pint toward Bogart.

De nada!” He raised a pint in return.

I smiled.

The server pulled out her electronic keypad. “So it looks like you ladies are set for drinks. How about some appetizers or dessert?”

Actually, speaking of dessert,” Carmen said. “My friend here is having a difficult time choosing between two guys.”

The blonde leaned in. “Which two men are we choosing between?”

“We’re not having this discussion,” I said.

“The guy playing pool,” Carmen said without taking her eyes off the server, who gave a nod in TJ’s direction, clearly knowing who we were referring to. “And the guy at the bar. Not the albino. The one with the great ass who just bought us this round.”

The server didn’t even turn around, but I did look over her toward Bogart. The heel of his boot was propped on the foot rail that wrapped around the bar, and his hands gripped the edge of the bar’s granite countertop. His jeans did cup his ass, but it wasn’t just his ass I noticed. The sleeves of his shirt were rolled up and he held on to the bar like he was about to do a push-up. His shirt stretched across his back, revealing muscle tone and definition. He had a perfect V-shaped torso, with a narrow waist that broadened to wide, powerful, ready-to-be-clawed-into shoulders.

Blog Tour: Desert Jewel by Natalina Reis

"Powerful, passionate, & epic."

Author: Natalina Reis

Title: Desert Jewel

Release Date: October 8, 2016

Publisher: Hot Tree Publishing

Rebellion brews inside Milenda’s heart as the date for the Trials approach. As the

heiress to the throne of Natale, she is forced to choose a consort from the survivors of the

grueling quest across the desert.

Milenda’s heart belongs to Jaali and wants no part in the ancient and cruel ritual, but the

Elders—the true rulers of Natale—will not back down.

Jaali was brought from the far North as a child slave. His only chance to be with the woman

he loves is to volunteer for the Trials, no matter how dangerous or how much Milenda

objects.

Together they begin their journey of discovery and rebellion against the Elders. But will their

love be enough or will they lose everything they've fought for?

Milenda felt guilt nibbling at her toes. As the heiress to the crown, the Jewel, as she was often called, she was kept away from politics. Her royal father and the body of Elders wove a protective shield around her, keeping all the uncomfortable realities at bay. When Milenda had insisted on taking classes at the centuries-old university campus, she had almost caused a national crisis amongst the governing bodies. She would be exposed to facts and rumors they’d rather have hidden from her. She had been relentless in her desire, and at last they had given in.

All along, they’d had her followed. It was hard to ignore a giant hulk of a man, wearing the flamboyant uniform of the Protectors, always a few steps behind her. It was not hard to dissuade them from keeping a close guard on her; a few not-so-veiled threats of improper conduct and she soon lost her bodyguard. Everyone knew who she was and for the most part, much to her dismay, they kept their distance, too scared of committing some faux pas and of the government’s retaliation. Even the professors were guarded around her.

So, it was refreshing to really talk to someone who did not recognize her at all. To be treated like an ordinary young woman, even for just a few moments, was exciting and new.

“What do you study?” Jaali asked her, his pale blue eyes trained on her face. She felt a rush of heat crawling up her neck. The unusual young man tilted his head as if fascinated by what he was seeing. “Is it normal for your spots to shine?” he asked.

Damn it! My traitorous spots.

Her people’s typical skin spots were known to glow and shimmer when they got excited, embarrassed, or happy. Spots were distinct. Not one person from Nyota stock had the same pattern of matangazos. The location of the markings also changed from one person to another, but they were all in at least partially visible places of the body. Hers began on her right cheek by her ear and spilled in a flowing pattern like a cornucopia down her neck into her shoulder, dissolving at her shoulder blade. Her matangazos resembled the spots of a leopard, but on others, they were shaped like round dots or elongated ovals or even hearts. She remembered trying to hide her markings, which were naturally a slightly deeper color of amber, with makeup as a young teenager, trying to look more like the Wazi, whose skins were unmarked and smooth like sanded ebony. Her markings didn’t bother her anymore, though. She had grown to love and accept them as a part of what made her an individual, and nothing made her prouder than being regarded as her own person.
